Many people, over the course of time, have asked me “what is the Kasba experience?” For anyone who has been to Kasba Lake Fishing Lodge before, I would like to think that the experience of which we allude to becomes quite evident over the course of the 4 or 8 day fishing trip. But for new guests, the ones deciding which Canadian fishing lodge is the best ‘fit’ for them, trying to describe the Kasba experience to them is not so simple. Well with this blog I hope to put to rest what we mean when we say “That is the Kasba experience”.
Kasba is…Simple
We know that going on a Fly-In Canadian Fishing Trip in Canada’s remote Northwest Territories is no easy undertaking for most. However, at Kasba Lake we really do make it look simple. Winnipeg, Manitoba is our departure point, and with ever increasing connecting flights to all major international airports in the US and Canada, getting there has never been easier. Once you land in Winnipeg, you can rest easy knowing we take care of the rest. Transport from the airport hotel to the departure point of our private charter (only a 15 minute ride I must add)? Done. All your baggage handled with care and loaded without assistance? Done. In-flight service up to the lodge? Sure. Landing on a private air-strip RIGHT BESIDE our main lodge? Done. Warm breakfast upon arrival while our staff unload your baggage directly into your cabin? Yep. Out fishing in remote Canadian waters teeming with fish within 1 hour of landing? Why not.
We make your Northern Canadian Fishing Adventure quite simply…simple.
A fishing vacation at Kasba is…Exciting, or Relaxing, or Discovering..Or whatever you would like it to be!
We tailor fishing trips. Not one trip to Kasba Lake is the same, and that’s because we tailor YOUR trip to YOUR expectations. Upon meeting guests the first time, our fishing guides look to do one thing; understand what kind of fishing trip each guest is looking for and create an itinerary that will result in expectations being not only met, but exceeded. Curious what your trip might look like? Have a look at some samples below:
- Your first time to Kasba and looking to experience Canada’s great wilderness? Let’s head to uncharted waters where the sound of another boat is a luxury. Take a day to flyout to the Mighty Kazan River for a chance to be the lone souls to fish the spectacular rapids that run for miles. Go discover some of the local Native American history with tent-ring sites and trappers cabins. Discover some of the spectacular scenery found around the lake at places like Gothe Island, the Northeast Esker, the Schwandt River, and Boundary Bay, while of course fishing one of Canada’s best fisheries the whole time!

- An intermediate fisherman wishing to try a bit of everything? Let’s start the trip by fishing Kasba’s famous Cisco Spawn, a yearly phenomenon that results in an abundance of Lake Trout all near the surface. Bring out the light tackle and hold on for the fight of a lifetime! Next we can motor to nearby Eagle or Snowbird Rivers for some ferocious Northern Pike action! Scan shallow bays in the morning and sight-cast for trophy Pike and search the deeper cabbage in the afternoon for what may be lurking underneath.. Day 3 should be a day spent on the Kazan World Heritage River, honing those fly-fishing skills on the best Arctic Grayling fishery in the world is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. To finish the trip, let’s spend the morning at The Dome, the home of Kasba’s Lake Trout spawn. Hunting for trophy trout while sipping a warm coffee and soaking in the tranquil surroundings. The afternoon? Your choice. With all three species of fish found at all locations around the lake you are never too far from your next fishing adventure!

- An experienced fisherman, self pro-claimed “hard-core”, who is on the hunt for one thing and one thing only; BIG FISH. Get your gear and bag your lunch as we aren’t stopping for anything. Let’s start our fishing trip at the East Side Esker, a proven ground for hunting both Big Pike and Big Trout. Cast the cascading fall of the East Side Pike Bay for what may be waiting to trap pray in the deep pool below. Then, troll the steep glacial formations of The Wormhole for its famed 30lb+ trout and watch the Northern Sun make its slow descent into the horizon. Next, lets head to the Kazan! The mouth of the Kazan River is well known for its Grayling fishing, but what people tend to forget is that Grayling are very very tasty…in the eyes of a large Trout or Pike! Try a big jig and sink it down into those deep pools below the current. How about we head South to Boundary Bay? The sand-covered South-End is home to rolling hill and large flats that Big Fish like to call home in an unusual abundance! Then finally, a day spent among the amazing scenery of the Schwandt River is sure to put you at ease as well as fulfill your craving for a monster—sized fish. This is a place where Big Trout, and Big Pike, collide in a churning river of amazing fishing! Whatever trip you are looking for, we make it reality. That is our Kasba guarantee.

Kasba is…Hospitality at its finest!
We know what you need to be comfortable and make sure it is available. Our cabins are new with propane / baseboard electric heat, full bathrooms, instant and never-ending hot water, and spectacular views. Our lodge is welcoming with a full-service lounge, satellite television, wireless internet, entertaining games and live music. Our Chef has been with us 8 years running and every year seems better than the last. Breakfast begins with a simple question of “what would you like?” instead of “this is what we have”. Dinners range from succulent steaks to tender prime rib to delicious stuffed chicken breasts, and all are served with fresh warm breads, choice of starter salads or soups, and of course a selection of sweets for dessert. We train our staff with the ‘Kasba Style’ which is to provide warm, genuine, and friendly service. Kasba Lake is our summer home, and we invite all our guests to make it their summer home as well. Our guides are the best in Canada, hands down. Some with over 30 years experience on the lake, they are pros at knowing what to fish, where to fish it, and how to do it best, most comfortably, and most efficiently. Some other lodges may rotate through new guides every season, but not us. Ours have a tendency to stay because once that “Kasba Experience” gets a hold of you, it’s not so easy to let go of. If that isn’t a sign of something special, then I don’t know what is.
